In conjunction with an OEM partner Hallam is developing a “grow light” product optimizing the arrangement of an LED array and growing environment – including controlled temperature and humidity – to support the effective and efficient growth of edible plants in commercial and domestic environments. The domestic (home use) product would allow users to grow salads and micro-greens very quickly for use when preparing meals.
The project is part-funded by Innovate UK and original research is being undertaken at an Agri-Tech Catapult centre. Evaluation consists of measuring and benchmarking emissions from the LED array, at critical locations in relation to the plant, within the growing unit. These are:-
- Light output in terms of wavelengths and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR – nanometres)
- Photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD -micromoles per square meter per second)
Hallam has considerable technical expertise in B2B LED-based product development and manufacture and is able to construct, in prototype form initially and in volume thereafter, any recommended configuration for optimum plant growth.
